Chartered in 1990 by Regional Director, June LaVerne Long, Esq., Contra Costa Alumnae Chapter became the 821st Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Our chapter made history by becoming the first chapter chartered at the Fifth Annual California Social Action Conference (Delta Days) held at the State Capitol in Sacramento, California and currently consist of 77 members who are committed to leading change and addressing the needs and challenges that impact the residents of Contra Costa County.
The chapter has developed and implemented community-based programs, which align with the sorority’s Five Point Program Thrust: Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health and Political Awareness and Involvement. We continue to educate and stimulate participation by implementing various community activities such as: public policy and providing solutions for problems impacting African American communities in Contra Costa County. Our on-going programs include: Delta Academy, Delta GEMS, EMBODI, Delta Days at the Nation’s and State Capitals, Financial Fortitude and our award-winning International Program for the adoption of Nazaret School in the Dominican Republic.
During our 26-year existence, Contra Costa Alumnae Chapter continues to grow and has made a significant and positive difference in the lives of its residents. We take pride in the fact we are empowering the community and improving the quality of life for hundreds of families.
